Program Description

Only students with a university/MA degree are accepted, based on an interview that evaluates the applicant's scholarly performance, research proposal, and general professional intelligence. Doctoral students may be engaged in teaching in the undergraduate program of the University of Debrecen.

Research Focus

Linguistics

The program is especially interested in syntax, morphology, semantics, and pragmatics, as well as in the more interdisciplinary fields of computational linguistics, discourse analysis, first and second language acquisition, and sociolinguistics. With a firm devotion to linguistic theory, the program also welcomes and encourages experimental and corpus-driven approaches to the study of language, focusing on English but also open to other languages of the world.
