Online Academic English Presessional (10 weeks)

Overview

This course is an online-only academic English language pre-sessional course which allows students to study remotely from anywhere in the world. The course prepares students for study in the UK and helps improve their academic English level to the standard required to study a postgraduate or undergraduate course.

In this online pre-sessional course, students learn how to use language appropriate for their academic course to express their thoughts and ideas effectively. They develop the academic English language needed, alongside the knowledge and skills to prepare them for their ongoing studies at the University of Leeds.

Entry requirements for the online summer pre-sessionals are the same as the on-campus summer pre-sessionals. The requirements vary based on the academic program's IELTS score requirements:

• If the academic program requires an overall IELTS score of 5.5 with no less than 5.5 in each component, students need 5.0 overall with no components below 5.0.
• If the academic program requires an overall IELTS score of 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in each component, students need 5.0 overall with no components below 5.0.
• If the academic program requires an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each component, students need 5.5 overall with no components below 5.5.
• If the academic program requires an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no less than 6.5 in writing and 6.0 in all other components, students need 5.5 overall with 6.0 in writing and no components below 5.5.
• If the academic program requires an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no less than 7.0 in writing and 6.0 in all other components, students need 5.5 overall with 6.5 in writing and no components below 5.5.
• If the academic program requires an overall IELTS score of 7.0 with no less than 6.0 in writing and 6.5 in all other components, students need 6.0 overall with no components below 6.0.
• If the academic program requires an overall IELTS score of 7.0 with no less than 6.5 in each component, students need 6.0 overall with no components below 6.0.
• If the academic program requires an overall IELTS score of 7.0 with no less than 6.5 in Reading and Writing and 7.5 in Speaking and Listening, students need 6.0 overall with 6.0 in reading and writing and 6.5 in listening and speaking.
