Natural Sciences (Study Abroad) MSci Hons

The Natural Sciences (Study Abroad) MSci Hons program at Lancaster University is a five-year course that offers students the opportunity to design their own degree from a wide range of science pathways. This program is ideal for students who are interested in more than one science subject or want to explore where traditional disciplines overlap.

Overview

The program starts with students choosing three pathways in Year 1, allowing them to discover and develop their passion for scientific disciplines. In Year 2, students continue with two pathways and introduce optional modules, starting to specialize in their chosen areas. Year 3 involves delving deeper into topics and applying skills and experience to a major research project or dissertation. After a year spent overseas at one of the university's partner institutions, students return to advance their degree in Year 5 by studying Master's modules and conducting a significant, individually supervised research project.

Entry Requirements

• A levels: A*AA, including two science subjects from Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, or Psychology.
• Access to HE Diploma: Considered on a case-by-case basis, with a typical requirement of 45 Level 3 credits at Distinction.
• Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales: Accepted in place of one A level, as long as subject requirements are met.
• BTEC Extended Diploma: D*DD, with Distinctions in the majority of relevant science units.
• International Baccalaureate: 38 points overall, with 17 points from the best 3 HL subjects, including two HL science subjects at grade 6.
• GCSE requirements: Mathematics grade 6/B, English Language grade 4/C.
• English language requirements: IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with at least 5.5 in each component.

Course Structure

Fees and Funding

• Undergraduate Tuition Fees for 2026/27:
  • Home: Ł9,790
  • International: Ł30,770
• Additional costs: Dependent on subject choice, with optional field trips that may incur travel costs. Extra costs related to the course for items such as books, stationery, printing, and general subsistence on trips and visits.
• College fees: Ł40 for undergraduates and research students, Ł15 for students on one-year courses, supporting college events and activities.
• Computer equipment and internet access: Students require access to a computer and reliable internet access. The University provides limited financial support for IT equipment and broadband.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Students are automatically considered for main scholarships and bursaries when applying. Eligibility depends on fee status, with various schemes available, including the Lancaster Bursary, Undergraduate Excellence Scholarship, and International Undergraduate Excellence Scholarship.
